So, I don't know if I mentioned this yet on here but I am a huge lover of Korean dramas. And I was just thinking that it would be a perfect subject to discuss on my blog.
To start off this series of posts I am going to discuss the first 4 episodes of the newly premiering show Heirs or The One Who Wants To Wear The Crown, Bear The Crown.
What attracted me to this show was hands down the cast.
I'll start off with Lee Min-ho. Let's be honest, Min-ho is gorgeous. But beyond that, I have loved his acting in everyone one of the previous dramas I've seen him in. Boys Before Flowers was the second Kdrama I watched (first being Dream High) and the first drama I saw with Min-ho in it. He played spoiled rich kid Goo Jun Pyo so well that it amazed me and I think it was watching that show that I was done for when it came to Kdramas.
And then you have Park Shin-Hye as the female lead. Seriously, Shin-Hye is a goddess when it comes to Kdramas. I went on a marathon of hers after I watched Heartstrings and ended up watch He's Beautiful and Flower Boy Next Door all in one weekend. All three characters in these dramas are so different, honestly you'd think a different actress was playing each of them. Shin-Hye is so convincing as fiery, shy, and even as a boy.
Seeing these two names, the names of my favorite actor and actress, I knew that I had to watch this show. And the line up of the minor cast is pretty amazing. Kang Min-Hyuk, Choi Jin-Hyuk, Krystal, and Kim Woo-Bin just to name a few. I saw Jin-Hyuk in Panda and Hedgehog and loved him in it. And Min-Hyuk's character in Heartstrings (not to mention I love CNBlue) is easily the most adorable and lovable character ever, and I was so excited to see him in this as well.
Now on to characters. The two leads are interesting and I am excited to see where the development goes as the show progresses.
Kim Tan for instance is so different from Min-ho's other characters. He shows a softer side way earlier on. Even in City Hunter there's an obvious edge to his character right from the get go. Kim Tan's obvious child like adoration for his brother is endearing, seriously it makes my heart melt. And I also am enjoying the fact that he is a little bit more open with his emotions than the typical male lead. Plus, his English is the cutest thing ever. I am so excited to see more about his writing maybe and to find out why his brother seems to hate him so much.
Cha Eun-Sang is a bit on the annoying side for a female lead, especially one played by the always enjoyable Shin-Hye. Her being the constant verge of tears drives me crazy! Not to mention, when someone as gorgeous as Kim Tan says he might like you, you do not walk away. Its obvious that him and his fiance don't really care for each other, so how can she just say goodbye? I did however like how Eun-Sang is with her family. She got mad at her sister and didn't just forgive her for everything. And her relationship with her mom, how close they are, it reminds me of my own relationship with my mom. I am really hoping her character becomes less wishy washy as the show progresses.
Favorite minor character? That is a tough question. Probably Hee-Nam (Eun-Sang's mother). Her character is so uniquely real compared to other parent characters. And I love that she has a very common disability. And then I love Bo-Na. Her obsessive jealous nature is actually cute and I really hope we get to see some background on her character.
Plot. So far, I am digging it. It has a little bit of everything and it seems to break the norm, at least from previous shows I've seen. They are doing it at a different pace as well, which I like. It means that we can expect more plot lines overall.
This is already a really long post, so I might just talk about specific moments in another post later on. Since I set up the characters and what not with this, I can talk about specific points as time pases.
I am pretty sure I am going to do other shows too. Not just Kdramas either, and maybe some movies and books along the way as well.
Well thats all my dears.
Onwards and upwards!
